Artistic Habits

Objective:The student will assemble a portfolio of artistic skills by observing the natural world, demonstrating a variety of drawing techniques and collaborate with their classmates to design a reflective mandala. 
Assessment: The student will partake in informal assessment, with one-on-one conversations with the teacher. At the conclusion of the project they will also partake in a formal and reflective critique in Schoology.

II. Artist Boot Camp

Goal:  Like an athlete, an artist must practice and hone their skills until it become "muscle memory". In this project, the student will create a series of studies and artworks that demonstrates basic drawing skills. 

III.  2 hour drawing in Graphite

The student will show understanding of graphite by creating a 2 hour drawing. The student will be responsible for staging and lighting their still life. The student will  fill their composition and use photography to document their still life for long term.

V. Mandala Series

Goal:
Each student will create a mandala design for their class "coloring book". The Mandala represents, their "vision of the universe" design will be created by varied shapes and lines. The students will start by figuring out what lines they are drawn to (Handwriting Exercise). and "abstract" or break down their handwriting into lines and shapes. This Mandala will be copied off for all students to practice color theory on. 
Why Coloring Could Be The New Alternative To Meditation

VI. Bonus Lesson: Stream of Consciousness

Goal: 
In order to understand the connection between the subconscious and creativity, the student will write in a steam of consciousness image. The will write without regard to format for 6 minutes straight. One this same paper the student will pull out one or more dominating ideas of their stream of consciousness and draw this in a blind contour. Following this, they will use their pen and ink techniques to create and image with value and then paint the background in watercolor.
